about

Mataura Ensign, 25 February 1919: A large and representative gathering of friends and neighbours met at Mr C. Painter's residence, last Friday evening, and in appropriate terms made a presentation of a handsome silver tea service to Mr and Mrs Painter upon the severance of their connection with Charlton Road where they have resided for a long interval. Mr Falconer said those present would always remember their hospitality and kindness on every occasion. A programme followed in which Messrs McKie, Finlinson, Mrs Hill, and Messrs Scott and Edwards contributed vocal items Mr McKie accompanying on the violin, assisted by Mr A. Foubister on the bagpipes. Miss Ella Burns contributed a Scotch reel. Supper was dispensed by the ladies and an enjoyable evening terminated with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne”.
